'Happy Colour' revives the 'Hope of Life in our Hearts'

Updated: May 4

The Qasimabadi Ribbon Skirt is the local dress of the people of Gilan, Iran. It has been worn more than 4,000 years.

The beauty of this skirt is its many gathers or flair and the number of brightly coloured ribbons used. The more ribbons used, the more beautiful the skirt and the greater the happiness .......... which reflects the ancient Persian quote from the title of the blog.

The Ribbon Skirts had slowly fallen out of favour with the passage of time. However, in recent years these striking skirts are used more and more again for special occasions and celebrations and are loved again due to their traditional style, colour and love of their cultural heritage.

Jecasso Belt and Ribbon Skirt

The villagers of the Qasimabadi community has made its own special ribbon dance, which is a kind of 'Thank You' prayer and 'Thanksgiving'.

The Ribbon Skirts are striking and beautiful. Along with the Jecasso Belts they are not only gorgeously unique but express the splendour of traditional Persian creative designs and heritage as a modern, unique fashion statement.
