I do!
I first fell in love with the knitted socks I saw in the markets of Northern Iran. But the more I looked the more I found so many stunning brightly coloured items.
Colour makes us happy! Yes?
This is why I set about finding my favourite beautiful traditional accessories and collaborating with talented weavers, a felter, a wood carver and leather crafter, to make modern, yet traditional accessories. Our small community of talented makers negotiate a fair price for their superb work. They use 100% pure locally reared sheep's wool. We support rural women and recognise their amazing talents.
But the vibrant colours reflect the creativity and incredible skills of Iranian artisans and their devotion to preserving their craft and cultural pride. We want to celebrate this too.
The hand woven belts are made specifically for our Jecasso Belt design by Marvesh, a talented, traditional Rug Weaver. Although I ask for colourful combinations, Mahvash has an intuitive sense of which colours compliment each other.
Our soft, brightly coloured, hand-woven rucksacks are made from the Chador Shab weave that is woven in the old neighborhoods of Gilan. Our weaver is Mrs Abbaspour, an experienced weaver and maker of bags from this region. Her husband is a talented felt maker, who makes our brightly coloured, traditional Namadi Hats.
Our popular, robust Rugsacks are made from repurposed traditional 100% pure wool Persian rugs by Mrs Imanpour. The main feature being the miniature Persian Verni Rug covering the large front pocket. The remaining parts of the bags are made from Jajim, a hand woven, thick cloth originally used as a blanket to protect travellers against the harsh weather.
I have located some gorgeous, colourful, cosy, felt slippers, with a simple embroidery on the front. I hope to add the to the Jecasso website soon.
Colour, beauty, cultural pride and respect
for our incredible makers lies at the heart of Jecasso.
